Fighting cancer with hope.
MEET THE TEAM
KARYNA ATHA
President and Founder
Hey there! My name is Karyna, and I’m a senior at Brown. I’m concentrating in Biology, specifically Immunobiology. Having been born and raised in Mumbai, the city’s healthcare disparities became a bitter reminder of an unjust world. While that might sound gloomy, I derive hope and happiness from volunteering and making the slightest amount of change (as cliched as that might sound!). In high school, I started working with Indian NGOs, that support low-income cancer patients. At Brown, this has led me to volunteer at Mariam Hospital’s Cancer Center. Hence, Umeed’s mission is particularly close to my heart and I would be thrilled to have your support and contributions!

URVI BINJRAJKA
Vice President
Hi everyone! My name is Urvi, and I'm a sophomore at Brown. I was born in Arizona, but Mumbai has been my home for the last 10 years, I am double concentrating in Biology and Economics. I have always been passionate about social initiatives that help people at home in India - from projects related to mental health to education. When I got to college, I did not want this to change! We are super excited to bring Umeed at Brown to campus, and hope you join our efforts.
SHREYA DAS
External Communications Director
Hi! I'm Shreya and I'm a senior at Brown concentrating in History and Economics. I've always tried to integrate some level of social impact in my life. At my high school, I focussed on raising funds and awareness for an NGO based in Jaipur supporting street women and children, as well as another organisation promoting animal rights. At Brown, I'm President of 180 Degrees Consulting Club which does pro-bono consulting for nonprofits in the Providence Area. I'm really excited about Umeed's mission and discussing it with my peers at Brown!
RISHI PATEL
Finance Chair
Hi everyone! My name is Rishi. I am a senior at Brown majoring in Biochemistry with a focus on Computational Biology. I was born in California, moved to India when I was 7 and have been living there since. While I aspire to work in the Biotech industry, promoting social change and awareness has also always been an integral aspect of my life. In India, I developed an app to create consumer awareness on spurious drugs and worked with different doctors and hospitals to reinforce this. I also worked to create a charity guide to help match businesses with NGOs so they can gain the support they need. I’m glad that through Umeed I can do work with the same spirit. I hope you join our cause and help us make a difference! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions for us.
ALANNAH CLARKE
Internal Communications Director
Hi everyone! My name is Alannah and I am a junior at Brown from northern New Jersey. I am studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and it is my hope to become an Oncologist and researcher focused on delivering equitable care to underserved communities. I currently work with several organizations that share this mission of promoting health equity. I was drawn to Umeed particularly becauseI admired their commitment to investing in both the provision of equitable cancer care and financial resources to cancer patients as well the promotion of education regarding the current public health crisis in India. I am so happy and excited to be a part of Umeed's efforts to offset the socioeconomic burden of cancer care.
